A Day Out

" The day of foreign languages in State Higher Vocational School in Krosno. "

The Meeting started at 11 am. Rector NHVS, Gregory Przebinda, welcomed and subdivided us into groups ; Germany language, English language, Intercultular and Translation group.I participated in "Translations to English”
At the beginning, the german group and ours went to "Why is language important?" - where the lecturer replied to our questions in an interesting way. We could say anything we wanted to and he showed us the right way of thinking.

Next, we went to a room where we were going to have our first seminar. As soon as we came there, we knew that we made a mistake. We received a paper with german words and the teacher was talking in German. Me and my best friend didn’t understand anything and we were really confused, fortunately, after a few minutes, our English teacher came to the room and took us to the right seminar. At the beginning, the teacher gave us small gifts – a pen and a notebook with a school logo on that. We talked about the job as a translator. Then the teacher gave us a paper with different English sentences. We had to translate them into Polish. Then, fold the corners that noone could see what was on the paper. There were lot of mistakes but everyone had different style of writing and we sometimes wrote something and we read another word by mistake. Later on, she gave us a paper for a couple and there were some Polish sentences which were written incorrectly. We were looking for mistakes.

During the 2nd seminar, the teacher told us how to do a simultaneous and consecutive translations. Simultaneous looks like - the person who translates something, repeats words after the person who’s talking and triesnot to be any seconds late. However, they change their roles after 15 minutes. Consecutive, looks like – the translation is available after a full statement. Translators help themselves with special symbols and write what the speaker said.

All the seminars lasted about 30 minutes. We also had a treat prepared by them organizers. Everything finished at 2pm. In my opinion, this day was really good, I realized how many patience translators need to have in their job.

My memory

This summer...

I was in the USA at my cousin's Dominika. I flew to New York at night, tired went to sleep. I have not seen her for four years!! I lived with her for 2 weeks, she has a younger sister who plays volleyball and loves to play with his cat. Dominica works at the swimming pool where I was often sunbathing. My dream was to see Times Square, so we took subway to New York. When we arrived it was already dark, but then the view was amazing. I stared in disbelief at the skyscrapers. The next day we went to Washington D.C. where I saw the Capitol and White House. We took pictures at the Lincoln Memorial. Now when I watch TV and I see one of those monuments I say 'I was there!'. I would like to see them again someday. I love that place!! When you are in New York you have to see the Statue of Liberty. It is so big! In  New York I have tried sushi for the first time and in spite of everything they say, it is very good however the bagels are the best! I could eat them every day!! I hope I will have some time to visit the USA in the future. I would like to see more places...
